It’s Official: NBC Confirms No Chicago Fire, Med or PD Episodes in December

No reruns, no new episodes—One Chicago fans will have to wait until 2026

NBC Confirms Fans’ Worst Fear

Chicago FireChicago Med, and Chicago P.D. fans, brace yourselves: NBC has officially pulled the plug on all One Chicago programming for December 2025. That means no new episodes—and not even reruns—will air on Wednesday nights for the rest of the year.

The network’s updated holiday schedule, released this week, confirmed what many fans feared after the trio of fall finales on November 12. While there was hope that reruns might air during the December hiatus, NBC has chosen to replace the entire One Chicago block with seasonal specials. Why Are Chicago Fire, PD & Med Not New Tonight March 12?

What Will Air Instead?

NBC’s Wednesday lineup throughout December will now be filled with festive programming. Highlights include:

  • Dec. 10: A special airing of the 2024 holiday movie Red One, starring Chris Evans, Dwayne Johnson, and Lucy Liu

  • Dec. 17: A full night of holiday-themed encores including Shrek the HallsA Motown Christmas, and Jimmy Fallon’s Holiday Seasoning Spectacular

  • Dec. 24It’s a Wonderful Life will air on Christmas Eve

  • Dec. 31: NBC will close the year with Wicked: One Wonderful Night followed by A Toast to 2025!

No One Chicago Until January

This marks a complete absence of One Chicago content on NBC’s airwaves during the holiday season—something that hasn’t happened in years. The good news? Fans won’t have to wait too much longer. NBC has confirmed that all three shows will return with new episodes on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.

Until then, fans are encouraged to revisit their favorite episodes via Peacock, where all seasons of Chicago FireChicago Med, and Chicago P.D. are available for streaming. Why There’s No New One Chicago Tonight & When New Episodes Return (Fire, PD, Med)

What This Means for the Franchise

With no network airtime in December, fans may feel more disconnected from their favorite characters—but the move does give the writers room to build anticipation for the winter premieres. Expect Chicago Fire to pick up with the fallout from the Engine 51 threat, Med to dive deeper into new hospital leadership, and P.D. to tackle Voight’s next moral reckoning.

NBC’s decision also reflects a broader trend of reserving December for holiday programming and pushing all major midseason drama returns to the new year.
