Coronation Street fans have said they were left ‘so obsessed’ after they spotted how the show appeared different to the others, despite losing out at the National Television Awards.

Stars of the ITV soap swapped the cobbles for the red carpet on Wednesday night (September 10) as they attended the 30th edition of the annual awards bash.

Among them were Weatherfield’s own Jack P Shepherd and Sue Devaney, famed for playing David Platt and Debbie Webster in Corrie, as they were both shortlisted for the drama performance gong on the night.

Sadly, they missed out to eventual winner, EastEnders lengend Steve McFadden. It marked the first time the actor, famed for playing Phil Mitchel in the BBC One soap, had ever picked up an NTA in his decades on Albert Square.

There was still a chance for Corrie in the serial drama category, however, EastEnders did the double as the London-based soap reclaimed its crown after losing out to ITV’s Emmerdale last year.

But it was during the announcement of the nominees for the serial drama award that Corrie fans got excited as they used popular couple Lisa Swain and Carla Connor’s recent proposal as the clip of choice to showcase what the soap has to offer.

@liiarla said: “So obsessed with all of the other soaps using dramatic clips and Corrie is just swarla #ntas.” @agf1052 commented: “Putting Swarla as THE #NTAs clip shows how committed to them Corrie is.”

@eternitydropped shared: “Using Swarla engagement scene for the Corrie video, they know what the viewers want.” @carlaconnorsg posted: “So beautiful how the #NTAs played the swarla proposal clip for Corrie!!”

@Sazkelly1 wrote: “Using the Swarla proposal scene to represent Coronation Street means so much to me, Ali and Vicky you are so special #swarla #ntas #coronationstreet.” @swarlahq added: “Got pretty emotional seeing this on the big screen, and hearing the crowd cheer.”
