Coronation Streets

Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) has done nothing but try and slot herself back into Lisa and Betsy Swain’s (Vicky Myers and Sydney Martin) lives since she returned – it’s no wonder Carla Connor (Alison King) is feeling a bit put out. Lisa’s early introduction saw her tell Carla that she was grieving after her partner Becky died in the line of duty. As the two began a relationship, Lisa worked hard to move forward from Becky and the loss, in order to allow herself to be happy. Lisa and Carla faced many challenges with Becky’s memory at the centre, but ultimately got through them. Just as they got engaged, everything changed – obviously. Becky returned from the dead and confirmed to Lisa that she had been living undercover. In the weeks that have followed, Becky has reconnected with Betsy, and made it quite clear that she isn’t keen on Carla. While dealing with Becky’s presence, Carla has successfully sold the Rovers Return following Jenny Connor’s (Sally Ann Matthews) departure. The new owner is a man called Ben, who we know will turn out to be Eva Price’s (Catherine Tyldesley) partner. In tonight’s episode, she told Lisa that she’s feeling worried about going, because she’ll be alone with Becky. All Lisa could do was reassure Carla and tell her that she has no interest in Becky. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to put Carla’s mind at ease. She later found Roy Cropper (David Neilson) in the café and asked him to keep an eye on Becky while she’s gone. A couple of weeks ago, Carla told Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) that she doesn’t think Becky is telling the truth about why she was able to come out of hiding. If producer Kate Brooks’ comments are anything to go by, Carla’s hunch that Becky’s hiding who she really is – is absolutely correct. Carla Connor and Lisa Swain sitting at the kitchen island in Coronation Street Carla is feeling paranoid about Becky’s intentions with Lisa (Picture: ITV) ‘I’m not going to pull any punches, she’s a bit of a villain. She’s come back and she knows what she wants!’ the former Emmerdale boss warned Metro. ‘She wants her family back. She wants to oust Carla from this very happy home life that she’s created. ‘So we are watching this story develop, and slowly we’ll start to peel away the layers of Becky and who she is and what she’s actually capable of. At the minute on screen, we’ve only really scratched the surface, but she is capable of many things. ‘The thing that she’s capable of doing the best is reminding Lisa of the life they had’, Kate added. ‘They were together for a long time. They’ve got a child together. There’s that history between them. There’s that love there.’‘It’s really interesting seeing the reaction from people online, and seeing how they’re viewing the story. Betsy, Lisa and Becky Swain argue in Coronation Street Lisa reckons that Carla has nothing to worry about (Picture: ITV) ‘What I can say is that Carla and Lisa are a brilliant love story. They’re a brilliant soap couple. And I think the journey we’re going to go on with these two, as they navigate this woman who’s been literally dropped from a great height and landed like a bomb inside their house… How do they navigate this? ‘How Carla, who is bolshy and feisty and doesn’t take any messing, how she struggles to comprehend that this woman is at her kitchen island drinking tea, and she’s having to restrain herself from doing anything crazy to oust this woman. ‘I feel really proud of Carla. She’s been really mature about the situation, but obviously that maturity and that understanding can only last a certain amount of time before somebody’s going to flip.’
