BBC Casualty and when it’s on next as fans spot ‘missing’ episode

The BBC medical drama was replaced on Saturday night as fans face a longer wait for the next episode

BBC audiences were left wondering why the long-running medical series, Casualty, didn’t broadcast on Saturday evening.

The programme took a hiatus from its current storyline due to a scheduling change, allowing space for another beloved annual occasion.

The drama, which has been a Saturday evening fixture since launching in 1986, is presently showing a miniseries called Learning Curve. With just two episodes left, the BBC decided to postpone its usual transmission, and for good reason.

Casualty was substituted by the Big Night of Musicals, which occupied the 7.45pm time slot, featuring a celebration of musical theatre presented by Jason Manford.

Casualty isn't on BBC One tonight – here's when the next episode will air

When is Casualty back on?

Unfortunately, supporters must endure an extended wait for the following instalment as next Saturday, 4 April, will see the programme replaced by the FA Cup quarter-finals.

BBC One will be broadcasting the fixture between Southampton and Arsenal, which is scheduled during Casualty’s typical airtime.

This means the next episode of Casualty won’t actually be shown until Saturday, 11 April, when the series will continue with the second-to-last episode of ‘Learning Curve’.

There’s much to anticipate in the forthcoming episodes as the series builds towards a dramatic conclusion.

Viewers turned to X, formerly Twitter, to express their reactions to the programme’s break, with one stating: “Settled down for Saturday night telly and just realised there is no #Casualty [sad emoji].”

Another commented: “No soaps yesterday and now no new #Casualty tonight. We’re really in a television drought until soaps return tomorrow.”
