Chicago Fire, Med and PD won’t air a single new episode in December 2025
Fans of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD will have to wait a little longer for answers to those shocking fall finales. NBC has officially confirmed that no new episodes from the One Chicago franchise will air in December 2025, nor will there be any reruns during the holiday season.
Instead, NBC is turning over its Wednesday night lineup to holiday specials, including:
-
Christmas in Rockefeller Center and Christmas in Nashville on Dec 3
-
The network television debut of Red One (starring Chris Evans and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) on Dec 10
-
More festive programming expected on Dec 17, Dec 24, and Dec 31

One Chicago Shows Return on January 7, 2026
NBC will kick off the new year with a bang: all three One Chicago shows return Wednesday, Jan 7 with brand-new episodes and resolution to explosive cliffhangers from their fall finales.
Here’s a reminder of what’s at stake:
Chicago Med: Lenox in Life-Threatening Danger
The last time we saw Dr. Lenox, she discovered Faye badly beaten and unconscious at the bottom of a staircase. As she tried to help, Faye’s abusive husband Devin arrived—and struck Lenox over the head. The winter premiere is expected to pick up immediately after that harrowing moment.
Chicago Fire: Severide & Van Meter Trapped
Fire ended with Severide and Van Meter stuck inside a raging apartment fire, their exit blocked and survival uncertain. Meanwhile, Mouch faced losing his job after Chief Pascal targeted Engine 51 for decommissioning. The stakes have never been higher for Firehouse 51.
Chicago PD: Imani’s Search for Julie Ends in Terror
In a chilling finale, Eva Imani went looking for Julie at Ray’s house, only to find her missing. Just as Imani made her move, the sound of a door creaking open ended the episode on a blackout—leaving viewers hanging in suspense.
With each show ending in life-or-death cliffhangers, the One Chicago winter premieres are poised to deliver explosive drama when they return in early 2026.
Until then, Wednesday nights belong to the holidays. But come January 7, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD are back—and the fallout begins.
