Corrie fans floored as they spot star’s ‘fuming’ face after losing award

Coronation Street viewers were left stunned after noticing a star’s “fuming” expression as he was pipped to the post at the National Television Awards (NTAs).

The most anticipated evening in British television unfolded on Wednesday (September 10), with the NTAs making a triumphant return. The ceremony, hosted by Joel Dommett, took place live from London’s O2 Arena.

A variety of popular programmes, spanning reality TV to soaps, were vying for accolades, including EastEnders, The Masked Singer and This Morning. A host of celebrities were present, such as Stacey Solomon, Davina McCall and Jeremy Clarkson.

In the Serial Drama category, the nominees included Emmerdale’s Belle Dingle, portrayed by Eden Taylor-Draper, and Coronation Street’s David Platt, played by Jack P Shepherd.

Corrie veteran Debbie Webster, played by Sue Devaney, was also nominated, alongside EastEnders’ Phil Mitchell, portrayed by Steve McFadden, and Lauren Branning, played by Jacqueline Jossa, reports the Daily Star.

However, it was Steve who clinched the award, marking his first ever NTA win despite being a part of the BBC soap for 35 years. Upon receiving his award, Steve paid homage to the other soaps and their dedicated casts.

Yet, viewers tuning into the NTAs couldn’t help but notice that Jack, who was in the audience, appeared “fuming” when the camera focused on him following Steve’s victory.

On X, one viewer commented: “Jack looking fuming he didn’t win as always.” Another chimed in: “Sorry could David Platt and Belle Dingle look more fuming hahahaha. Go Phil.”

One viewer commented: “Jack Shepherd raging, go on Steve!” Echoing their sentiments, another added: “Eden TD, Lydia and Jack… how embarrassingly ungracious! ! ! Absolutely scowls as Steve walked up to collect his award.” A fifth responded: “Yeah bad losers.”

In the winners room afterwards, Steve expressed: “I’m very happy, I’m absolutely over the moon. It’s been hard work, the last 35 years have been hard work but this last year has been particularly hard.

“It’s been very gratifying and it validates what we do. I’m very happy that I’ve been able to be a voice for those who don’t have a voice.”
